Happy Valley creator Sally Wainwright recently talked about why she doesn't think sexism is as much of a problem in the UK as it is in America. She explained: "I think if you're talented, and you've got what it takes, it doesn't matter what sex you are. It seems to me it's harder in America. There's a lot more sexism in the American system, certainly on-screen. Women have to be very thin and very beautiful, whereas men can be much more eccentric; they can be old and fat. In the UK, we can portray women as they really are."
