Footage screened at Cine Gear Expo of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming movie, The Hateful Eight stole most of the headlines during this year’s event.

Test footage of the new 70mm anamorphic shot film received enthusiastic applause when it was shown at the Paramount Studios lot during the California-based exhibit

But also present at the event were the usual previews and demos of new and exciting products including something brand new from Teradek - it's Spark 60GHZ short-range transmitter - plus a new Bluetooth offering for LitepanelsAstra.

The latter gives users the opportunity to control light intensity, colour temperature and fan speed wirelessly via a free app for iOS and Android.

Furthermore, the app in question lets you arrange multiple Astras into groups to cue them wirelessly.

Prokit was at the four-day event which played host to around 300 exhibits and included a number of film screenings, seminars and master classes.

SmallHD were at the expo showcasing their new 500 series of HD monitors. The 502, and the even newer 501 – offering a 5-inch 1080p screen with colour capabilities that rival OLED technology – are attractive options for DSLR shooters looking to attach it straight to the camera.

Moreover, its robust mounting options and durability allow the display to be used on a gimbal or shoulder rig without adding bulk.

Also on display was Defy’s Dactylcam, the device’s flexibility allows users to move from handheld camera operation to line rig operation with very little down time.

According to the US-based company, the Dactylcam Kit is sure to take production and cinematography to new heights.
